Shweta Pradar (Leucorrhea)

Excessive vaginal white discharge with symptoms like itching, burning sensation and pain followed by body ache and tiredness is described as Sweta Pradar in Ayurveda. Its consistency varies, and may be thin or viscous thick. According to Ayurveda it is caused due to the imbalance of all three doshas that are Vata Dosha, Pitta Dosha, Kapha Dosha which leads to vitiation of rasa dhatu in the vaginal tract.

Below are the causes or reasons which results in White discharge-

-Improper dietary habits and lifestyle

-Intake of imbalanced food-heavy, cold, sweet, and oily

-Fungal Infection

-General weakness , low immunity.

-Imbalanced hormones

-Improper vaginal hygiene 

Things to avoid-

– Avoid food that is heavy, oily, fried, spicy, and sour.

-Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, aerated drinks, and meat.

– Avoid sugar eg:- desserts, pastry’s, chocolate etc

-Increase the intake of fresh fruits, vegetables and salads eg – okra, banana

-Increase intake of liquids in your diet it helps to flush out the toxins.

– Maintain Proper hygiene and wear clean 100% cotton underwear. 

Now Lets discuss some home remedies that might be helpful to get rid of the symptoms and ease the discomfort.

1) Triphala – 

Triphala possess antimicrobial property which is useful. 

Take 2 tsp of triphala powder in 1 cup water boil it then let it cool, use this solution to douche. Follow this procedure and douche at least 2-3 times daily.

2) Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seed are loaded with the properties which boost up immunity. When treating leucorrhea, the seeds not only soothe the skin, they also impact the mucous membranes across different parts of the body. The lining of the vaginal wall is rich in mucus, so taking Fenugreek seeds helps ease any discomfort of the membranes, thus regulating the amount of mucus produced, it also helps maintain the normal pH range of the vagina. Lastly, the seeds also work to improve the body’s immunity. 

Method 1

Place 1 tablespoon of the fenugreek seeds in a pan and pour in the water. Boil the mixture for half an hour. Once boiled, pass the mixture through a strainer and save the solution strained. Allow the solution to cool until it attains a comfortable temperature. Use this solution to douche. Follow this procedure and douche at least thrice daily for best results.

Method 2

Place 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a bowl and add water before soaking overnight (or for a period of 10-12 hours). In the morning, pass the mixture through a strainer and discard the used seeds. Add the honey to the solution and stir before drinking. The best time to use this remedy is in the morning, on an empty stomach to facilitate for the quick absorption of the seeds’ nutrients.

3) Coriander Seeds –

It is an herb that is easily found in every kitchen also used in cooking regularly. As per Ayurveda coriander is very beneficial in treating leucorrhea it gives relief from the symptoms of leucorrhoea.

How to use

Soak overnight 2tsps of dry coriander seeds in 1/2 cup of water overnight and drink it on an empty stomach in the morning.

4) Tumeric-

Turmeric’s antibacterial properties help keep this in check by offering protection to the vaginal area. You may add garlic to compliment the herb’s healing properties. garlic is not only a potent antibacterial, it is also an excellent antiviral.

Add a few drops of water to the 1tsp of turmeric to create a paste of your desired consistency. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic to the paste mix and consume every morning. you can also add the above ingredient to your food.

5) Banana –

Banana soothe the digestive system as well as ease the discomfort that accompanies leucorrhea so eat 1-2 ripe bananas everyday.

Crushed inflorescence of banana with honey is a very effective remedy.

6) Other herbs like Amlaki, neem and aloe Vera are also effective.

It is best to try home remedies only if the symptoms are mild but if the symptoms become more sever like excessive discharge with foul smell, itching or sever pain then it’s advisable to consult a practitioner.
